LOGO DEVELOPMENT
The Art Cheerleaders logo has evolved over the years. Their original Boston SMFA shirts read “SMFA Cheerleaders” in shiny silver on black shirts, and included a circle with a rhino head in the center. The rhino head represented the bronze rhino statue outside the SMFA Fenway building.

Later, when the Richmond group wanted a broader art-focused identity, they developed the iconic Make Art! logo. This logo first appeared on the Richmond Art Cheerleaders’ t-shirts. They sold these t-shirts, as well as homemade baked goods, at their homecoming at a First Fridays Richmond Artwalk event in September 2007.
Below is a gallery of the draft iterations created by the Richmond squad. The phrase “Make Art!” is a direct reference to the SMFA Cheerleaders’ staple cheer of the same name.
