Use & Attribution

Archive Use Policy

The Art Cheerleaders distinguish between historical archive materials and new contributions.

Historical Archive Materials

Historical materials include SMFA-era and Richmond photographs, press, video, audio, flyers, uniforms, programs, and cheer texts. These materials are preserved for research, education, and documentation. Reproduction requires permission unless otherwise noted.

New Contributions

New cheers, performances, chapter materials, and documentation submitted after the launch of this site may be published under a separate contributor agreement. Contributors may choose to allow broader reuse, but official archive inclusion still requires review.

Public Use of the Name

The name “Art Cheerleaders” may be used in descriptive reference to the historical project. Use of the name for a new official chapter, event, exhibition, merchandise, class, social media identity, or performance series should be reviewed by the project stewards.

Inspired by the Art Cheerleaders?

The Art Cheerleaders welcome influence. We do not require every artist, student, teacher, or performer to ask permission before being inspired by the project. We do ask for attribution. Please do not present a new project as an official Art Cheerleaders chapter unless it has been reviewed and recognized. Use “inspired by” language instead.

Recommended wording:
This project is inspired by The Art Cheerleaders / Art School Cheerleaders, a performance-art lineage originated at SMFA Boston in September 1995 and revived in Richmond in 2007. Then link to: artcheerleaders.com
